Running Out of Steam? 5 Ways to Rejuvenate and Refocus

Become Rejuvenated and Re-energized

Whether you are a student, an entrepreneur, or someone who continuously stays busy, its safe to say our brains are in over drive working long hours. Sound familiar to you? Before we know it, we have hit a wall and start to feel the affects of burn out.

Pretty soon we start suffering from effects like insomnia, anxiety, anger outbursts, poor productivity, and much more. It isn’t long before you are a total mess and nothing can get accomplished.

So before you spiral into total oblivion, take action to control the situation. So how should you combat the effects of burnout?

Here are some ways to rejuvenate and recharge your energy when you are feeling burnt out:

  1. Learn to say “No”

If any of you have watched the movie “Yes Man” starring Jim Carrey, you quickly find out that saying yes to everything isn’t always beneficial to your well-being. Many people struggle with saying no and this often times leads to having too much on your plate and feeling overwhelmed. Be able to say no as often as you can say yes. In the long run you will thank yourself.

You do not need to please everyone and sometimes some alone time is all that’s needed. When confronted with new opportunities make sure to ask yourself, “Is this something I want to actually do or am I doing this solely to please someone else? Will this opportunity better me in any way?” If you answered no to any of these, then your answer should be “no!”

  1. Get out and Exercise

As ironic as it sounds, getting active and exercising can help rejuvenate you. Staying active has proven to release stress and help you refocus on the tasks at hand. It doesn’t matter what you do, just do something that gets your heart pumping!

Head on over to and find a good workout plan that will help guide you and keep you motivated. Exercising releases endorphins which will in turn will re-energize you!

  1. Eat Healthier

There’s a reason for the saying, “You are what you eat”. Constantly feeding your body junk food will in turn make you feel like junk and can often times cloud your field of thought. Don’t think harder than you have too!

By just eating healthier, you will find yourself able to think clearer, feeling better about yourself, and having more energy. Here are some ways you can eat healthier and reverse the effects of burnout:

  • Cook at home because often times homemade meals are healthier than what you would get at a restaurant
  • Buy healthy foods like vegetables and fruits and don’t skip your greens!
  • Avoid eating chips, cookies, and other sugary foods
  • Don’t eat right before you go to bed as often times you will wake up with a messed up stomach
  1. Reassess Your Goals

Often times we forget where we are trying to get to and overthink things. We have all had that moment when we are about to leave the house and remember that we are forgetting something only to go get it and then forget what it was we were looking for. Its an awful feeling, but it’s the results of our minds working too hard and too much.

Take time to sit down and write your goals out so that you can figure out strategic ways to achieve and accomplish them. Having goals gives us purpose and drive in order to keep moving ahead and progressing in life.

  1. Do a Digital Fast

Can you remember the last time you went a day without checking your phone or using your laptop? Most of us would answer with a quick “No!” and that’s worrying.

Multiple studies have been done, specifically one done by Fast Company, that show taking a break from technology can be beneficial to our well-being. Here are some of the benefits:

  1. Improved memory
  2. New Perspectives
  3. Better posture
  4. More efficient sleep

With all these proven benefits, its no wonder we don’t do it more often! If you are up to a challenge, try taking a digital fast for 2-3 days and reap the rewards! In the end you will thank yourself.

Don’t let burnout send you spiraling into negativity. Combat it with these strategies, and you are guaranteed to stay productive and positive, while also getting one step closer to your goals.
